January 29, 2008 – ARAMARK, the concessioner in Shenandoah National Park, announced its in-park lodge openings for the 2008 season. The following lodging accommodations are available to park visitors: Skyland Resort (Mile 41.7) opens March 20, Big Meadows Lodge (Mile 51.2) opens April 25, and Lewis Mountain Cabins (Mile 57.5) opens April 11.
ARAMARK is proud to invite visitors to experience all the park has to offer, with a host of exciting opportunities at Shenandoah this year. An overview of what’s happening at the ARAMARK property includes:
- Guided Outdoor Adventure Programs – Professionally guided one-day hikes and
rock climbing/rappelling trips are available late March through early November. One-day hikes will now be offered every Thursday from March 27 through November 6. The popular rock climbing and rappelling hikes will take place every Wednesday from May 14 through September 10. Both will depart from Skyland Resort. - Shenandoah Seasonings Culinary Workshops – Executive Chef Terry Sheehan will
host cooking demonstrations that highlight a twist to traditional Southern cuisine native to the Shenandoah region while showcasing sustainable practices. Dates for the workshops are April 18-20 at Big Meadows Lodge; and June 15-16 and September 21- 22 at Skyland Resort. One day demonstrations will be available on August 8 and 15 at Skyland Resort.
- Signature Events – ARAMARK hosts a series of events throughout the season in
Shenandoah National Park to further enrich the cultural experience at the park. SummerFest, a summer festival, featuring lively entertainment from the 1920s through the 1950s along with classic cars on display, will return on July 26 with a rain date of July 27. The popular Tea with the First Ladies: Lou Hoover and Eleanor Roosevelt provides an informative narrative about these two spirited women while desserts from their favorite recipes and teas are served. The Apple Butter Celebration, September 12 and 13, takes visitors back to a time when women would snit their apples and gather together for a combination of work and socializing.
